car weight in tons Page 7

Wondering how heavy a car is in "tons"? In Australia we use tonnes, and 1 tonne equals 1,000 kg.

Light hatchbacks typically weigh about 1.1–1.3 tonnes, small SUVs 1.3–1.6 tonnes, and family sedans/wagons 1.4–1.8 tonnes. Dual‑cab utes come in around 2.0–2.4 tonnes, while large 7‑seat SUVs span roughly 1.9–2.7 tonnes. EVs are heavier thanks to batteries, often 1.7–2.4 tonnes, so mind the driveway lip unless you fancy concrete confetti. These are kerb‑weight ballparks; towing gear, bullbars and the weekend’s camping pantry will nudge it up. Consult official documentation for exact figures.
