caravan hot water system Page 6

Ah, the humble caravan hot water system—because nothing screams 'luxury' like lukewarm showers on the road. Most common systems are either gas-powered, electric, or a clever combo of both, delivering a cosy approximate temperature of 50-60°C. Gas systems tend to be more efficient and perfect for off-grid adventures, while electric ones are great if you have reliable shore power. Prices vary from about $400 to $1,500 AUD for new units, depending on capacity and brand; used options pop up now and then on Tradingpost or CarShowroom for a bargain.

Common headaches include:

• Thermostat failures leading to either scalding or cold water.
• Leaks due to corrosion or poor fittings.
• Ignition issues in gas models.

Best advice? Check manufacturer specs thoroughly and consider your power source reliability before splashing cash.
