caravan stamp duty Page 7

Stamp duty on caravans is a state-and-territory sport in Australia, and the rules don’t all play the same game. Many jurisdictions either exempt caravans and camper trailers from motor vehicle duty or apply a concessional/flat rate, but the exact treatment depends on where you register it. You’ll still cop registration and plate fees, and with private sales the duty (if any) is paid at transfer—dealers usually bundle it into the drive-away price. Before you hitch up and hand over cash, check the latest from your state authority (Service NSW, VicRoads, TMR QLD, etc.) so the only surprise is the weather at the caravan park.
