Ah, CATL batteries—the powerhouse behind many modern electric vehicles and energy storage solutions. These lithium-ion beasts boast high energy density, typically around 160-200 Wh/kg, making them a darling for EV makers aiming for longer ranges. CATL also pushes the envelope with innovations like the "cell-to-pack" design, which trims weight and cost by skipping the module stage. Prices vary wildly depending on scale and contract, but expect new CATL battery packs to cost around $150-$200 AUD per kWh retail, with used cells naturally cheaper but less reliable. Common issues? Well, aside from the usual thermal management headaches and degradation over time, these batteries require precise balancing and good software to avoid turning your EV into a very expensive paperweight.

• Thermal runaway risk if damaged or poorly managed
• Capacity fade after several years
• Supply chain bottlenecks for raw materials like lithium and cobalt
