It’s issued by a licensed vehicle tester and focuses on safety-critical bits — tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, lights, windscreen, seatbelts and structure — not a full mechanical health check. The certificate is usually valid for 30 days from the date of issue in Vic. Expect to pay roughly AUD $150–$300 for the inspection, plus whatever it takes to fix anything that fails (your wallet may also require counselling).
