In WA, changing car ownership is done through DoTDirect—quick clicks, less faff. The seller should lodge a Notification of Change of Ownership straight away with the buyer’s details and odometer, which protects them from your future parking sins. The buyer then completes the transfer online within 14 days and pays the transfer fee plus vehicle licence duty (stamp duty) based on the sale price or market value.
Plates usually stay with the car (personalised plates can be retained), and inspections aren’t generally required unless there’s a defect notice or the vehicle’s unlicensed. CTP is bundled with rego, so it tags along nicely. Miss the deadline and you’ll meet a late fee—less fun than a flat white gone cold.
