Switching a New Zealand licence to a Queensland one is blessedly simple: if you’ve taken up residence in QLD, transfer it within 3 months at a TMR service centre.
Bring your current NZ licence, proof of identity (passport or similar), proof of QLD residential address, and any medical/vision certificates if you’ve got conditions; you’ll pay the fee, get a photo, and usually surrender the NZ card.
With a current full NZ licence you typically won’t need tests, and you’ll receive equivalent Queensland classes; a restricted/learner NZ licence converts to the matching QLD provisional/learner conditions.
If the licence is expired, not verifiable, or the class isn’t equivalent, testing may be required—book ahead so you’re not queuing like it’s Boxing Day sales. Rules and fees can change, so confirm with TMR before you go, and carry your overseas licence when driving until it’s transferred.
