Swapping your personalised plates for standard ones in Queensland is as exciting as a beige Camry, but it’s straightforward.
Order a set of standard plates through the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR), then visit a TMR customer service centre to swap them over and pay the plate and admin fees.
Bring ID and your current registration details; your rego stays current, only the plate number changes.
You can either surrender the personalised plates or park the combination with Personalised Plates Queensland (PPQ) to keep the rights for later—both options may attract fees.
Fit the new plates, return the old ones as directed, and tell your insurer so their records don’t throw a tantrum.
Check TMR/PPQ for current fees and booking requirements before you roll out.
