charger plug types

In Australia, EV charger plug types are refreshingly simple, despite the alphabet soup. For AC charging, the standard is Type 2 (Mennekes), typically up to 7.4 kW on single‑phase or 22 kW on three‑phase. For DC fast charging, you’ll mostly use CCS2, which many networks run anywhere from 50 kW to 350 kW depending on the site and your car. CHAdeMO still exists for some older Nissans and a few others, usually around 50 kW, but it’s fading fast. Older imports may have Type 1 (J1772) for AC; they charge fine with an adapter but won’t do three‑phase. Tesla in Australia now uses CCS2 for Supercharging; older Teslas may need an adapter or retrofit—so yes, bring the right cable and a sense of humour.
