cheapest satellite phone Page 8

If you’re chasing the cheapest satellite phone, the usual wallet-friendly pick is the Inmarsat IsatPhone 2. New units typically run about AUD $1,100–$1,300, while used examples often land around AUD $400–$800 depending on condition and battery life. Iridium models (9555/Extreme 9575) cost more—roughly AUD $1,800–$2,700 new and about AUD $700–$1,600 used—but they offer truly global coverage. Plans aren’t pocket change either: expect roughly $15–$40 per month access (or prepaid options) and call rates in the $1–$2 per minute ballpark, plus an activation fee here and there. Cheapest isn’t always best—Inmarsat coverage is excellent across Australia but not polar; Iridium is everywhere; Thuraya can be the bargain but has regional gaps. Hunt used deals on Tradingpost, check that the SIM/plan suits your travels, and make sure firmware and batteries aren’t older than your swag.
