NSW licence classes are simple in theory, like assembling flat-pack furniture: C for cars, R for motorcycles, then LR/MR/HR for bigger rigs, and HC/MC for the truly hefty stuff.
C covers cars and utes up to 4.5 t GVM and up to 12 adults including the driver; R is for motorcycles (with LAMS restrictions for learners/provisionals).
LR is light rigid up to about 8 t GVM or buses with more than 12 seats; MR is two-axle rigid vehicles over 8 t GVM; HR is three or more axles over 8 t GVM.
HC covers articulated trucks or a rigid vehicle towing a heavy trailer (over 9 t), while MC is the top dog: B-doubles and road trains.
Each step up usually needs time on a lower class, a knowledge test, a heavy vehicle competency-based assessment or test, and sometimes a medical.
Check Transport for NSW for current rules and training requirements, because the fine print changes more often than fuel prices.
Consult official documentation for exact figures.
