common problems with mitsubishi outlander phev Page 6

The Outlander PHEV is a clever bit of kit, but even clever things have bad hair days. Older examples can lose EV range with battery age and usage, and they’re fussy about proper charging habits. Short-trip life can also leave the petrol engine under-exercised, so rough running from carbon build-up isn’t unheard of. Software updates fix plenty of niggles—don’t be shy about asking for the latest. Given the extra weight, tyres and brakes can cop a harder time, so uneven wear is a common chorus.

• High-voltage battery degradation reducing EV range over time
• On-board charger/charging port faults and CHAdeMO connector hassles
• 12V auxiliary battery failures causing warning lights and limp-home drama
• Brake vacuum/booster issues leading to a hard pedal in some early cars
• Rattles/tyre wear from the added PHEV mass; alignment is worth checking
