common problems with suzuki jimny Page 6

The Suzuki Jimny is a tough little billy goat, but even mountain goats get the odd creaky joint. Here are the common gremlins owners in Australia report, especially on older or lifted rigs.

• Steering shimmy/wobble around 70–80 km/h from worn kingpin bearings, poor wheel balance or alignment; caster correction is needed after lifts.
• Front wheel and kingpin bearings wearing early with frequent mud or beach work.
• Rust in sills, wheel arches, chassis rails and body mounts, particularly on coastal or beach-driven cars.
• Driveline whine or vibration from diffs/transfer case, often after big tyres or low fluid levels.
• Oil leaks from axle and transfer case seals on higher‑km or hard‑worked examples.
• Clutch wear and notchy 5‑speed synchros on high‑km manuals; gentle feet help.
• Interior rattles and wind noise—boxy charm means it’s not exactly a library.

Regular servicing, proper wheel balance and decent tyres tame most of the wobble, and rust checks are non‑negotiable on coastal cars. Get a pre‑purchase inspection and you’ll know whether it’s a bargain billy goat or just goat’s cheese.
