compare car seats australia Page 2

Shopping for child car seats in Australia? The law is simple: choose a restraint that meets AS/NZS 1754, use the top tether, and match it to your child’s age/height.

Here’s the quick comparison—no mum‑forum drama, just what works.

• Infant capsule (rear-facing) – Pros: portable, great fit for newborns; Cons: short service life (~6–12 months), lugging bases isn’t fun.
• Convertible 0–4 (rear-facing to forward-facing) – Pros: extended rear-facing, good value; Cons: bulkier, can cramp smaller cars.
• Forward-facing harnessed (approx. 6 months–8 years, check labels) – Pros: secure harness, long use; Cons: less recline, not suitable for newborns.
• Booster with lap‑sash belt (4–8/10 years, height‑dependent) – Pros: light, easy swaps between cars; Cons: relies on correct belt fit and child posture.
• ISOFIX vs seatbelt install – ISOFIX is quicker and reduces misuse; seatbelt installs are just as safe when done correctly. Always use the top tether in Australia.

Measure your back seat, read both manuals, try a test fit, and get a professional install check if you’re unsure; safety beats aesthetics every day.

For rules by state and exact age/height stages, check your road authority and the seat’s label.
