coolest old cars Page 2

Looking for the coolest old cars? You want icons that turn servo forecourts into car shows and still start on a winter morning.

In Australia, the usual rockstars include the Holden Monaro (HK–HQ), Ford Falcon GTs, the ever-stylish ’60s Ford Mustang Fastback, the bulletproof Toyota LandCruiser FJ40, a Datsun 240Z with that sweet straight‑six, and an air‑cooled Porsche 911 if your wallet’s feeling brave.

Pick by heart but buy with head: check for rust, dodgy repairs, parts availability, and club support; cool doesn’t help when the starter motor doesn’t.

Set a budget for rego, insurance, tyres, and fuel, then leave a “just in case” kitty, because classics are like pets that drip oil. Do that, and every school run becomes a rolling history lesson—with better noises.
