coorong pink lake Page 9

The Coorong Pink Lake is a naturally occurring saline lake in South Australia, near the Coorong National Park. Its distinctive pink hue comes from the presence of halophilic microorganisms, particularly Dunaliella salina algae, which thrive in high salinity environments and produce carotenoid pigments. This spectacle is seasonal and depends on salinity and temperature conditions. The lake is a favourite for photographers and nature lovers, but swimming is generally not advised due to the high salt content and delicate ecosystem. Visiting the area offers stunning views and an unusual natural phenomenon that's quite the showstopper. For more details on accessibility and best visiting times, check local guides or tourism sites.
