Hydrogen fuel in Australia is scarcer than a park at Bondi on a long weekend, and priced accordingly.
At the handful of public or pilot stations, it’s sold by the kilogram, with ballpark prices around AUD $15–$30 per kg depending on who’s footing the infrastructure bill and whether it’s a trial.
Most fuel‑cell cars (think Mirai, Nexo) use roughly 0.8–1.2 kg/100 km, so you’re looking at about $12–$30 per 100 km.
That’s usually pricier than off‑peak EV charging and can be on par with, or higher than, a frugal petrol hybrid.
The bigger issue is access: stations are few, sometimes fleet-only, and may keep irregular hours while the grown‑ups sort out supply.
Bottom line: doable if you’re part of a pilot, not exactly a nationwide servo stop—yet.
