customer racing Page 472

“Customer racing” is motorsport you can actually buy into: factory-built race cars sold to private teams, with varying levels of support.

Brands like Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, Audi, BMW and Ferrari run GT3/GT4 and one-make series, supplying cars, parts and trackside engineers—sometimes even driver coaching if you ask nicely.

You get proper homologated machinery, predictable running costs and a rulebook that keeps the field close; you don’t get a magic win button or a discount on talent.

In Australia, these programs feed categories like GT World Challenge and Porsche Carrera Cup, letting amateurs and pros share grids without turning the paddock into a cheque-book duel.

If you want the podium, bring consistency, a good engineer and the budget for tyres and testing; the badge on the nose only gets you to the grid.
