Denny Hulme, the 1967 Formula One World Champion, suffered a fatal heart attack during the 1992 Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama, which led to a relatively minor crash. Marshals reached him quickly, but the medical emergency, not the impact, was the cause of his death. He was 56, still racing because some people can’t resist a good mountain and a fast car. It’s a sombre note in motorsport history and a reminder that even legends are human—just very, very quick humans. Respect to the Bear.
