difference between dab and dab+ Page 7

DAB is the older digital radio standard using MPEG‑1 Layer II (MP2), while DAB+ upgrades to HE‑AAC v2 (AAC+) with stronger error correction.

Translation: DAB+ delivers similar audio at a much lower bitrate, so broadcasters can cram in more stations without everything sounding like a blender.

Compatibility matters—most DAB+ radios play DAB, but DAB‑only sets can’t decode DAB+, and Australia’s metro digital radio uses DAB+.

• DAB pros: simple, older sets supported; cons: inefficient audio, fewer stations per multiplex.
• DAB+ pros: higher efficiency and robustness; cons: not supported by legacy DAB‑only receivers.
