The Torana GTR is the sporty street special; the XU-1 is the Bathurst-bred troublemaker that drank triple carbs for breakfast. Same basic shell, wildly different intent.

Torana GTR

• Pros: More civilised tuning, simpler carburation, easier ownership and tuning, generally kinder on fuel and budgets.
• Cons: Less outright shove, lighter-duty suspension/brakes, and none of the homologation halo.

Torana GTR XU-1

• Pros: Hotter six with triple carbs, close-ratio 4-speed and LSD, firmer suspension, and that Bathurst pedigree.
• Cons: Thirstier, noisier, pricier to buy/insure, and fussier to keep perfectly tuned and original.

No winner here—just different flavours of Aussie icon; choose based on how much theatre (and tinkering) you fancy. Condition and documentation matter more than stickers and spoilers.
