difference between vr and vs commodore Page 19

VR (1993–95) vs VS (1995–97): same basic shell, but the VS brings the meaningful tweaks under the skin and bonnet.

• VR pros: Affordable entry, classic ’90s Aussie feel, introduced driver airbag; the 3.8 V6 is tough and fixable with a shifter and a meat pie.
• VR cons: Rougher NVH, older electronics, less efficient ~130 kW V6, fewer safety/refinement updates.
• VS pros: Ecotec 3.8 V6 ~147 kW, better economy and tuning, improved immobiliser and optional extra airbags; later cars scored a stronger Getrag 5‑speed manual.
• VS cons: Still very ’90s inside, aging trim, and nostalgia tax on V8s and spicy trims.

Styling differences are subtle—think tidier details for VS—so buy on condition, service history, and spec rather than badge bravado. Consult official documentation for exact figures.
