Short answer: some Amaroks have low range, some don’t.
In the first‑gen (pre‑2023), manuals got a proper transfer case with 4L, but the popular 8‑speed autos used permanent 4Motion without low range, relying on a short first gear and off‑road modes.
The second‑gen 2023‑on Amarok brings the bush cred back, with most variants offering selectable 2H/4H/4L via a traditional transfer case.
As ever, check the spec sheet for your exact trim—don’t assume an older auto has it, and don’t assume every new one doesn’t.
