Yes—if the car is registered, Queensland requires a Safety Certificate (the modern “roadworthy”) before you even advertise it for sale, online or on the window.
Private sellers must display the certificate when advertising and provide it to the buyer at sale; get it from an Approved Inspection Station.
If the car is unregistered, you don’t need a certificate to sell it, but one will be needed to register it again.
Certificates for private sellers are typically valid for 2 months or 2,000 km from issue, and skipping it can earn you fines—less fun than a flat battery on a Monday.
In short: registered car = get a Safety Certificate first; unregistered = not required to sell, but expect it for rego.
