dog in car rules qld Page 615

Ah, the classic dilemma of whether Fido can join you for a drive without landing you in hot water with the Queensland authorities. In QLD, leaving a dog unattended in a car is a delicate matter, especially on a sunny day when the interior can quickly turn into a sauna. The Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 mandates that owners must ensure their pets are safe and not subjected to harm, which includes heat stress.

Practically speaking, if you leave your dog alone in a car, it must be adequately ventilated, not too hot, and the animal must have access to water. Failure to meet these conditions can result in hefty fines and even animal cruelty charges. So unless your car is a mobile doghouse with air-con running, it’s probably best to either take your furry friend inside or leave them at home.
