double garage size australia Page 89

Ah, the elusive double garage size in Australia—because squeezing two cars in a single lane of traffic is so last century. Typically, a double garage measures about 6.0 metres wide by 6.0 metres deep, giving just enough room to park your vehicles side by side without scraping mirrors or doors.

Some variations do exist, ranging from 5.5 to 6.5 metres wide depending on whether you have a couple of compact hatchbacks or a pair of lumbering SUVs. Depth usually stays around 5.5 to 6.0 metres to accommodate the average Aussie ride without turning your garage into a snug coffin.

For the fastidious, consulting local council regulations or architectural plans is recommended, but those numbers will get you close enough for Tradingpost or CarShowroom browsing.
