In WA, you can nab a learner’s permit at 16 after the theory and eye tests, then log at least 50 hours (including 5 at night) with a supervisor.

At 17, after the Hazard Perception Test and a practical drive, you can step up to a provisional licence (the P-plate era).

That provisional period runs for about 2 years with a 0.00 BAC requirement and a strict view on demerit points—so behave like your insurer’s watching.

Keep your record clean and you’re into a full licence roughly at 19.

Rules get tweaked occasionally, so check the latest from WA’s licensing authority before you book the cake and candles.
