In Victoria, getting your licence is a two-step dance with VicRoads: the computer-based Hazard Perception Test and the on-road Drive Test.
You must be at least 18, hold a learner permit, and if you’re under 21, bring a logbook showing 120 hours including 20 at night.
The drive test runs about 30 minutes and checks lane changes, merging, low-speed manoeuvres, and general roadcraft—arrive in a safe, roadworthy car with current rego.
Fees and wait times vary, so study the handbook, practise your scanning, and sprinkle in head checks like fairy dust.
Pass both and you’re on P-plates with zero BAC and probationary rules—less glamorous than a podium finish, far better than a bus pass.
