driving on corrugated roads Page 659

Corrugated roads turn your suspension into a maraca and your patience into dust, so set yourself up properly.

Drop tyre pressures around 20–25% from highway levels (often landing near 24–28 psi for SUVs/utes), engage 4H if you’ve got it, and keep speeds steady—too slow pounds, too fast skips.

Back off the traction/stability nannies if they’re cutting power constantly, but only where it’s safe and legal.

Leave big gaps for dust, avoid sharp steering on the marbles, and watch for hidden washouts and bulldust holes like they owe you money.

Stop periodically to cool shocks, check wheel nuts, and feel hubs; rattles loosen everything that isn’t welded.

Carry a compressor, puncture kit, spare fuses and water, and you’ll get there with more bolts than tall tales—just.
