Visiting Victoria? You can drive on a valid overseas licence if it’s in English, or with an official translation/International Driving Permit attached.
If you take up residence in Victoria, you’re generally required to convert to a Victorian licence within about 6 months.
Carry your licence and proof of visa/residency, obey any conditions on your licence, and expect the usual Australian rules—seatbelts, speed cameras, and a 0.05 BAC limit unless your licence demands zero.
If your overseas licence isn’t equivalent to a full licence, you may need to drive as a learner (supervisor and L‑plates included—glamorous, we know).
For edge cases (ride‑share, heavy vehicles, long stays) check VicRoads, because fines are a terrible souvenir.
