eating and drinking while driving qld Page 14

In Queensland, munching a pie or sipping a (non‑alcoholic) drink while driving isn’t specifically banned, but it can still sting you.

If it distracts you or you don’t have proper control of the car, police can issue penalties under careless driving or similar offences, which means fines and demerit points.

Hot coffees, sauce-laden burgers and one-handed cornering are basically an invitation for trouble—and insurers won’t applaud if you bin it mid‑latte.

Best practice: pull over, feed the face, then drive on; and obviously, alcohol behind the wheel is a colossal, career‑ending no.

Penalties change over time, so check current QPS/Transport Queensland guidance before you try a drive‑thru Grand Prix.
