On 20 April 2023, Australia hosted the Ningaloo solar eclipse—totality skimmed a thin track near Exmouth, WA, turning day to twilight for about a minute. The rest of the country got a partial show, like the Sun had a cheeky nibble taken out of it.

If you missed it, resist the urge to eyeball the Sun—use proper eclipse glasses or a pinhole viewer next time. Your consolation prize: a blockbuster total solar eclipse arrives on 22 July 2028, sweeping across parts of NSW and QLD, with Sydney in the path. Plan ahead unless you enjoy cloud, crowds, and the taste of regret.
