eclipse in australia 2023

Australia copped a proper sky show on 20 April 2023—a rare hybrid solar eclipse, nicknamed the Ningaloo Eclipse. Totality skimmed the WA coast around Exmouth and Barrow Island, while the rest of the country got a partial bite taken out of the Sun.

Yes, you needed AS/NZS-certified eclipse glasses; no, your sunnies aren’t magical. Up north, tides, traffic and hotel vacancies all behaved like drama queens, but the spectacle paid it back with interest. Next time, plan early, pack shade, and let the Moon do its photobomb without cooking your eyeballs.
