eclipse in melbourne 2023 Page 189

Yes—Melbourne caught a partial solar eclipse on 20 April 2023, courtesy of a rare hybrid eclipse that went fully dark up in Western Australia.

Here it was just a tidy bite out of the Sun around the middle of the day, and absolutely a job for proper eclipse glasses or indirect viewing only.

If you missed it, circle 22 July 2028: a total eclipse sweeps Australia, with Melbourne getting a deep partial while Sydney hogs the headlines.

Stargazing tip: it’s the only traffic worth staring at—provided it’s 150 million kilometres away.
