The so-called 'electric future' is the automotive world's hottest buzzword, promising a battery-powered utopia free of petrol fumes and the guilt of climate change. In Australia, the electric vehicle (EV) market is still finding its feet, with new EVs ranging roughly from $40,000 to $150,000 AUD depending on brand and model, while used EVs can be found on platforms like Tradingpost or CarShowroom for less. The infrastructure is improving, but you'll still need to plan your charging stops carefully outside major cities. Electric cars boast instant torque, lower running costs, and zero tailpipe emissions, but they bring challenges like limited range and charging times. So, while the electric future glimmers promisingly, it's not quite the no-brainer yet—unless you enjoy a bit of range anxiety with your morning commute.
