Bought an extended mechanical warranty and got buyer’s remorse? You can usually cancel within a cooling-off window—often 14–30 days—for a full refund if you haven’t claimed.
After that, most providers allow a pro-rata refund on the unused portion, minus the inevitable admin nibble, and if it was financed the money typically goes back to the loan first.
If it was sold as insurance (MBI), check the PDS; dealer-branded plans follow their T&Cs, but neither can override your Australian Consumer Law rights anyway.
Ask for cancellation in writing, keep dated copies, and expect proof of no claims; if stonewalled, escalate via the provider’s complaints process and then AFCA.
Oh, and add-ons bundled like tint or paint protection don’t magically block a refund—the warranty can be unwound on its own.
