“Flex commissions” were the old car-finance wheeze where dealers could bump your rate above a lender’s base and pocket the difference as commission.
ASIC outlawed that practice from 1 November 2018, so lenders—including ANZ and Macquarie—moved to lender-set rate models and flattened or capped dealer payments.
In plain English: the dealer can’t jack up your interest rate for a fatter bonus anymore, which is terrific news for your wallet and less fun for the upsell script.
If you’re seeing “flex” referenced today, it’s historical context or legacy chatter; any live deal in Australia should comply with the ban.
