ford 2.3 ecoboost engine Page 2

The Ford 2.3 EcoBoost is a turbocharged four-cylinder that punches well above its weight, popping up in the Mustang, Focus RS and a few SUVs/utes.

Core bits: 2.3‑litre inline‑four, turbocharged, direct injection, typically delivering around 200–240 kW and 420–500 Nm depending on tune and fuel.

It’s brisk, torquey from low revs, and much happier on 95–98 RON than whatever comes out of the lawnmower jerrycan.

Watchpoints: early Focus RS units had well‑documented head‑gasket/cooling woes, and like many DI engines it can see intake valve carbon build‑up if servicing is skipped.

Keep fresh oil in it, let the turbo cool after a hard run, and it’ll do the commute and weekend sprint without sulking.

Consult official documentation for exact figures.
