ford falcon fg xr6 mk ii review

The Ford Falcon FG XR6 Mk II is peak Aussie: big, rear‑drive, comfy, and powered by a creamy 4.0‑litre inline‑six that pulls like a train.

The non‑turbo XR6 makes around 195 kW and 391 Nm, so it’s brisk rather than bonkers; the Turbo is the one that properly rearranges scenery.

Ride and handling strike a tidy balance—relaxed on the highway, surprisingly tidy through sweepers—and the cabin is vast with a boot that could swallow a week’s worth of Bunnings regret.

Fuel use sits in the low‑teens around town and about 10–11 L/100 km on a gentle run, which is the price of six smooth cylinders and a big body.

• Common niggles: rear diff bushes and front control arm bushes, brake shudder, aging infotainment/Bluetooth gremlins, and neglect of the ZF 6‑speed servicing.
• Good service history and fresh suspension bushes transform them; ANCAP safety was strong for its era.
