ford falcon history Page 2

The Ford Falcon’s Aussie tale runs from the 1960 XK to the final 2016 FG X, built in Broadmeadows and woven into taxi queues, family trips, and Bathurst folklore.

Highlights? The XR GT (1967) lit the fuse, the XY GT‑HO Phase III (1971) became a legend, and the BA (2002) arrived with the tough Barra 4.0 inline‑six.

There were utes, wagons, police specials, and enough fleet sales to fill the Nullarbor twice.

V8s came and went, but the Barra six earned cult status for its blend of torque and indestructible vibe.

Local manufacturing wrapped in 2016, ending a uniquely Australian chapter that the SUV craze politely elbowed off the stage.

If you hear one on song, you’ll understand why the country still argues about which Falcon was “the best” over a sausage sizzle.
