ford ranger issues australia Page 1120

Australia loves a Ford Ranger, but hard yakka and school runs can reveal a few foibles.

• DPF woes on short-trip diesels—frequent regens, rising oil level, or warnings if it never gets a proper hot run.
• EGR/soot buildup causing rough idle, reduced power, and the occasional limp‑mode tantrum.
• Auto transmission shudder or flare (6‑speed and 10‑speed); software updates and fluid changes often tidy it up.
• Turbo/intercooler hose issues—splits or hoses popping off under load, leading to sudden loss of boost.
• Alignment and tyre wear after towing, big loads or corrugations; inside edges go first if neglected.

The utes are tough, not invincible—especially those that have spent weekends snorkelling in bulldust. Later updates improved some pain points, but diligence still pays. Check full service history, recall completion, and take a long test drive to confirm smooth shifts and healthy DPF behaviour; a pre‑purchase inspection is cheap insurance.
