Short version: there’s no universal, truly free “car service history check” in Australia—service records live in the logbook or with the brand’s dealer network.
Do this instead: ask the seller for the stamped logbook and invoices; call a franchise dealer with the VIN (they can confirm in-network service history with the owner’s consent); and run a PPSR for finance/write-off/stolen status (cheap, not free). Check recalls at no cost via the manufacturer and Product Safety Australia. If the history’s “misplaced,” treat it as a warning and book a pre-purchase inspection. A documented car is worth more; a mystery one is cheap for a reason.
