fuel excise rise Page 358

Yes, the fuel excise rises regularly—it's indexed to CPI and typically tweaks twice a year (around February and August).

That usually means a fraction of a cent to a couple of cents per litre, so a 60 L fill might climb roughly $0.30–$1.20, plus GST because, naturally, we tax the tax.

It applies to petrol and diesel at the bowser; businesses using eligible vehicles or machinery may claim Fuel Tax Credits, but everyday motorists can’t.

Expect small, predictable nudges rather than shock jumps—any big change would need a government decision (and a headline or three).

If you’re budgeting, assume tiny half‑yearly increases and check the ATO’s current rate for the exact figure.
