Getting L plates in WA is less mythic quest, more admin with a dash of common sense. You need to be at least 16, prove your identity, pass an eyesight check, and knock over the computerised Learner’s Theory Test at a Driver and Vehicle Services centre (fees apply).
Once the learner’s permit lands, you must display L plates front and rear, drive only with a suitably licensed supervisor, and keep your BAC at 0.00 — no exceptions, not even for celebratory lemon-lime bitters gone rogue.
Book ahead, bring the right ID, and you’ll be practising hill starts before the carpark seagulls realise you’ve opened a chip packet. For the latest fine print and forms, check the WA Department of Transport’s current requirements.
