good car movies

Start with Ford v Ferrari (Le Mans ’66) for old-school rivalry and V8 thunder, then Rush for the Hunt vs Lauda duel done properly. Mad Max: Fury Road is two hours of supercharged mayhem with a sprinkle of Aussie dust, while Baby Driver turns car chases into a drum solo. Drive is moody, stylish, and occasionally sharper than a panel beater’s bill, and Senna proves documentaries can lap fiction on pure emotion. For a classic caper, The Italian Job (1969) brings cheeky Minis and even cheekier one-liners.

Queue them up, turn the volume to “the neighbours will complain,” and enjoy the smell of imaginary tyre smoke wafting through the lounge.
