grand torismo movie

Yes, the “Gran Turismo” movie (2023) is a throttle-blip of wish-fulfilment based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the gamer who swapped a sofa for a seat in real race cars.

Directed by Neill Blomkamp, it stars Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, and Orlando Bloom, with more tyre smoke than your average weekend at Eastern Creek.

It follows the GT Academy program turning sim racers into proper drivers, with the usual cocktail of triumphs, near-misses, and stern pep talks.

It’s not a documentary, so expect some liberties taken, but the racing sequences are punchy and the sound design does the heavy lifting.

If you like underdog motorsport stories with a controller-shaped twist, this one’s worth a box of popcorn and a gentle rev.
