“Grey imports” are vehicles brought into Australia outside the official dealer network—often cheaper, sometimes cooler, and occasionally a paperwork piñata. The perks are obvious: unique models, tasty specs, and sharp pricing that makes local sticker tags look a bit sheepish. The catches? You’ll need proper ADR compliance and engineering, warranty support can be thin, parts/catalogues may be patchy, and some insurers get a touch snippy on premiums or coverage. Finance and resale can be trickier too, because buyers love a comfort blanket with their keys. If the price gap is big and the compliance is done by a reputable shop with full paperwork, you could be laughing. If not, a locally delivered equivalent with a neat service history will save you headaches and colourful language at rego time.
