holden colorado injector problems

The Holden Colorado’s 2.8‑litre diesel (2012–2020 RG) runs a high‑pressure common‑rail system—brilliant when healthy, grumpy when injectors go out of spec.

  • Hard starting, rough idle, or a diesel knock under load.
  • Black/white smoke and fuel economy going bush.
  • Rail‑pressure faults (e.g., P0087) or limp mode when hot or towing.
  • Diesel smell, rising oil level, or carbon around injector seats.
  • High return‑flow on a single injector during a leak‑back test.

Common causes: worn injectors, contaminated fuel, leaky copper washers, or a tired high‑pressure pump stressing the lot.

Diagnosis: scan for codes, perform balance/return‑flow tests, check the fuel filter and water trap, and recode injectors after replacement.

Expect roughly AUD 350–700 per reconditioned injector (more for new) plus labour; a pump can add AUD 1,200–2,500. Keep fuel clean and filters fresh, and it’ll go back to hauling without sounding like a kettle full of marbles.
