holden cruze 1.6 turbo problems Page 4

The Holden Cruze 1.6 turbo can be good value, but the usual suspects—heat, hoses and high-pressure gizmos—sometimes form a picket line under the bonnet.

• Cooling system leaks from water pump/thermostat housing or plastic outlets; watch for dried coolant and creeping temps.
• PCV diaphragm in the cam cover failing, causing rough idle, whistling and oil use.
• Ignition coils and plugs misfiring under load; shudder and stored codes tell tales.
• Turbo oil feed issues and split intercooler/boost hoses leading to smoke, whistle or limp mode.
• 6-speed auto (6T40) valve body/shift flare complaints; a strict service history helps.
• Direct-injection carbon build-up that hurts response and economy over time.

Get a pre-purchase inspection, confirm cooling-system and transmission servicing, and budget for fresh coils/plugs—cheap insurance on a spicy little bargain.
