holden cruze won't start and engine light on Page 5

If your Holden Cruze won’t start and the engine light’s on, the car’s trying to tell you something—probably “scan me before you start guessing.”

Grab an OBD-II reader and check for codes first; then start with the basics: battery health, clean tight terminals, and fuses/relays.

These cars have a few usual suspects, and most won’t bankrupt you unless you keep cranking like a blender.

• Failing battery or corroded/loose negative cable (a known Cruze gremlin)
• Ignition coil pack or spark plugs on 1.4T/1.8
• Crankshaft or camshaft position sensor (no sync = no start)
• Fuel pump or fuel pump relay
• Immobiliser/key transponder or clutch/neutral safety switch
• ECM connector/wiring issues, or a blown engine control fuse

If it cranks strongly but won’t fire, coil/sensor/fuel faults are favourites; if it doesn’t crank at all, think battery, starter, or immobiliser.

Fix the cause, clear codes, and retest—if the light returns, get a proper diagnostic at a workshop before you throw more parts at it.
